The Shrine’s STAR WARS Collecting Newsletter II

It’s been a while since I’ve put one of these out so I figured rather than spamming you all with a bunch of news info, I’d gather it all in one place!

12″ Kids Playline Action Figures – Hasbro has begun releasing a brand new line of 12″ scale action figures that are aimed at kids. These figures offer very little articulation (5 points) and are made entirely of plastic. These figures likely won’t hold much appeal for fans who enjoy their figures to be ultra-articulated, but for those of us who grew up and have warm-fuzzies towards the vintage Kenner 12″ line, these feel like they could easily be displayed side-by-side with them. They’d also be fun to customize and create large scale cards to display them alongside your Gentle Giant Jumbo Action Figures.

So far they’ve got 4 figures planned, Anakin Skywalker, Clone Trooper, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Darth Vader. You can view full galleries of the figures over on Rebelscum.

Price: $12.99-14.99 each

Adult Collector’s Lines

logoHasbro – Possible 6″ Super Articulated Figures Coming? There’ve been rumors floating around that thanks to the Disney merger that Hasbro might be changing things up w/ their toylines to include a new 6″ super articulated figure line. Rebelscum is reporting that these new figures would be a collaboration between Gentle Giant and Hasbro and that the figures could be hitting the market soon! Rumors going around are that this line could replace the 3 3/4″ as the line to entice collectors and possibly we’ll see the 3 3/4″ line’s articulation quality be kicked back a bit in order to help reduce production costs and bring the smaller figures prices back down. Check out the link above – RS has some cool news about this emerging story.

STAR WARS NEWS

episodio2gn3Focusing on Star Wars: Episode VII, Lucasfilm Postpones Episodes II and III 3D

Lucasfilm has decided to postpone this fall’s scheduled release of Star Wars Episodes II and III in 3D. Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy, we will now focus 100 percent of our efforts on Star Wars: Episode VII in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans. We will post further information about our 3D release plans at a later date.

Source: StarWars.com

This is just ridiculous – they were already planning on slamming out the movies BAM BAM over the course of 2-3 weekends in Fall of this year, it’s not like they had planned a giant long break between releases. We know what “postponed” generally means – this means we won’t see these films EVER. Really? Episodes II and III being done digitally were MADE to be see in 3D. No Coruscant chase? No Mustafar duel in 3D? Lucasfilm had better change their minds and figure out a time to put these out, otherwise it’ll be a waste in resources from their end for bothering to convert them in the first place.

On a side note, poor Hasbro had completely re-arranged their STAR WARS toy lines for this year, moving certain new characters including a whole new Padme Arena figure off to the end of the year so they could release them along with the 3D prequel releases. Where in the heck does that leave them now? I’m sure that there are a lot of bottles of Advil being passed around at Hasbro Headquarters right now.
